ARC provided by Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review Hilarious, poignant and beautiful, Unpregnant tells the story of Veronica, a seemingly perfect high school student She s in the run to be valedictorian, has the perfect boyfriend, perfect friends and everything that goes with it Until her perfect boyfriend pokes holes in his condom to get Veronica pregnant and stop her from moving away I KNOW RIGHT WHO DOES THAT With the help of Bailey Butler, her ex best friend, Veronic ARC provided by Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review Hilarious, poignant and beautiful, Unpregnant tells the story of Veronica, a seemingly perfect high school student She s in the run to be valedictorian, has the perfect boyfriend, perfect friends and everything that goes with it Until her perfect boyfriend pokes holes in his condom to get Veronica pregnant and stop her from moving away I KNOW RIGHT WHO DOES THAT With the help of Bailey Butler, her ex best friend, Veronica goes on the road to get to an abortion in a clinic 994 miles away in Albuquerque, NM 1 Unique Unpregnant is unique It manages to tackle serious topics teenage pregnancy, abortion, abandonment while being absolutely hilarious and delightful This book s main theme is abortion Although it s far from being a light hearted topic, Unpregnant does not shy away from that I mean, look at ALL THE TROUBLE Veronica has to go through The moral judgment, the misogyny and control over women s bodies is very real and the authors made sure to portray that This is a beautiful commentary on women s rights and how far we have to go to claim what s rightfully ours 2 Friendship Bailey Butler gave off some serious Janis Ian vibes and I was here for it Not only did I adore the two MCs, the story also centers around friendship and appearances It s about trying to have this perfect image and losing yourself in the process Can you really call your friends friends if they only care about you when you re happy and bubbly but MIA when you really need them view spoiler Are they willing to drive you to Albuquerque, destroy your ex boyfriend s car with candy and hold your hand while singing some Kelly Clarkson tunes when you re on your way to get an abortion Are they willing to hold a ferret as hostage in order to escape being kidnapped by a stripper hide spoiler If not, I would reconsider what I call friends Bailey Butler is a fierce lioness and gave true meaning to what a real friend is I think she s probably made it to one of my favorite characters of all time 3 Relevant and soooo damn important It s with sadness and bitterness that I call this book relevant today I don t live in the United States but the fight over women s control on their own bodies doesn t know any borders in my eyes Georgia Governor signed the Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Law, banning abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, when doctors can usually start detecting a fetal heartbeat if you wanna know , read this article Most women aren t even aware they re pregnant until the sixth week and it s disgusting that men like Brian Kemp still feel entitled to the opinion that THEY KNOW BETTER WHAT IS GOOD FOR A WOMAN THAN A WOMAN HERSELF However, the debate over abortion is worldwide and again, incredibly relevant I think this book is a perfect way to tackle these issues and I applaud Ted Kaplan and Jenni Hendriks for the way they handled it Keep up with me on my blog

I loved this book It is essentially Super Bad with female main characters, but instead of trying to get to a party, they re on a road trip to an abortion Even though the topics discussed throughout the book are heavy and serious, there s this amazing humor and report between these two female characters that you almost forget at times where they re headed and just enjoy the ride That being said, there s open conversations about things such as religion, abortion, female rights and other Souther I loved this book It is essentially Super Bad with female main characters, but instead of trying to get to a party, they re on a road trip to an abortion Even though the topics discussed throughout the book are heavy and serious, there s this amazing humor and report between these two female characters that you almost forget at times where they re headed and just enjoy the ride That being said, there s open conversations about things such as religion, abortion, female rights and other Southern values, showing the multisided views to each and not painting anything as black and white, rather on what s right for different people

A total romp of a story about a girl who needs to get an abortion after her boyfriend tampers with a condom he didn t want her to leave for college and when the scariest girl in school discovers her pregnancy, the two of them set off across state lines to get her the legal abortion for the weirdest and most uncomfortable road trip Along the way, Veronica discovers she s allowed herself to become a person who believes she s better than everyone else, and Bailey allows her story to become bette A total romp of a story about a girl who needs to get an abortion after her boyfriend tampers with a condom he didn t want her to leave for college and when the scariest girl in school discovers her pregnancy, the two of them set off across state lines to get her the legal abortion for the weirdest and most uncomfortable road trip Along the way, Veronica discovers she s allowed herself to become a person who believes she s better than everyone else, and Bailey allows her story to become better known and embrace vulnerability This book is very, very funny and it s clear that Hendriks and Caplan write for television, as it has that pacing and feel It s a bit over the top, but the bigger point in the story is exceptionally well rendered For a young person who is pregnant and seeking an abortion, it can become impossible for access to those services In Veronica s case, she has to travel from Columbia, Missouri and her conservative, religious upbringing, all the way to Albuquerque, New Mexico to have the procedure What I really loved most was the friendship that blooms between Veronica and Bailey They had been friends when they were younger, but they grew apart as Veronica kept climbing the good girl ladder Bailey seems like she s all hard edges, but we discover how much hurt and pain is in her life, relating to her father, and why it is she agreed to take this trip with Veronica Bailey s also lesbian, and this becomes both a point of pride and acceptance and a tool wielded against her until it s better understood how and where the girls religious upbringing impacts their beliefs Highly recommended

The full reviewcan be found at The Book Bratz I received an ARC of UNPREGNANT at BookExpo 2019Jessica is actually the one who put Unpregnant on my radar We were discussing debut novels we wanted to cover in 2019 and Jessica mentioned this one to me Unpregnant stood out to me because I ve never heard this in YA The main character is actively seeking an abortion That s not something you see everyday in YA literature While I was eager for this book, I was also nervous because abortion The full reviewcan be found at The Book Bratz I received an ARC of UNPREGNANT at BookExpo 2019Jessica is actually the one who put Unpregnant on my radar We were discussing debut novels we wanted to cover in 2019 and Jessica mentioned this one to me Unpregnant stood out to me because I ve never heard this in YA The main character is actively seeking an abortion That s not something you see everyday in YA literature While I was eager for this book, I was also nervous because abortion isn t an easy thing to discuss It s a matter that many people have their own opinions on Unpregnant is going to be some peoples favorite book and for others they aren t even going to pick it up But Unpregnant was about so muchthen just a teenager who was seeking an abortion I read Unpregnant in a little over two hours It was a quick and entertaining read that help my attention from the first sentence Veronica is a senior in high school and is ready for her life to get started, but she never planned on seeing the two little pink lines on a pregnancy test that she took There is one thing Veronica knows for sure though, she does not want a baby yet nor is she ready for the responsibility When Veronica decides that she wants to have an abortion she learns that the closest center to get one with out her parents consent is over nine hundred miles away in New Mexico With the help from her ex bestfriend, Bailey, Veronica takes a weekend trip that changes her life At first I really wasn t sure about Veronica s character but theyou sit in her head and read her thoughts and learn about her as a person theI grew to love her The road trip isn t just about her seeking an abortion but it s also about her finding who she truly is, the people who truly love her and how even in some sucky situations you got to make the best of it There were so many moments that I would be like Hell yeah or You go girl at some of the things Veronica would say and do She started off the novel and ended the novel as two different characters and I loved seeing that growth I haven t laughed so hard at a book in quite sometime and I couldn t help it There were so many moments that Veronica and Bailey basically ended up having to do the stupidest things or when you thought it couldn t get worse it did But in the funniest ways They act like seventeen year old girls who are about to graduate high school Veronica doesn t even start making a real plan until she is in the car with Bailey and they are leaving their small town Their characters were relatable and the authors made me feel as if I was sitting in the back seat with this duo Overall, I really loved Unpregnant and I can t wait to readfrom these authors Unpregnant is a funny story about finding who you are, learning the true meaning of friendship and what it means to be in a relationship and having to make a huge life altering decision Unpregnant is a book needed in this day and age and is going to bring forth a powerful but much needed discussion

This is the one book that I m extremely nervous to read because not only does it deal with a serious topic about abortion, but because I am an active Catholic teen who went to a Catholic high school.I believe an embryo is a living child No matter if I get raped or had an accident during sex, I refuse to do an abortion because that is MY child, and I am lucky enough to have the help and resources to take care of them HOWEVER, even though I disagree with abortions, A WOMAN HAS THE DAMN RIGHT TO This is the one book that I m extremely nervous to read because not only does it deal with a serious topic about abortion, but because I am an active Catholic teen who went to a Catholic high school.I believe an embryo is a living child No matter if I get raped or had an accident during sex, I refuse to do an abortion because that is MY child, and I am lucky enough to have the help and resources to take care of them HOWEVER, even though I disagree with abortions, A WOMAN HAS THE DAMN RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER SHE NEEDS WITH HER BODY I will still support and help a woman whether she gets an abortion or not A WOMAN SHOULD NOT GO TO JAIL OR GET HEAVILY FINED IF SHE FEELS SHE NEEDS TO GET AN ABORTION That being said, I really hope in this book there are two sides to the main friends reasons of their actions and that there isn t a one side right situation I hope religion doesn t get booted because there are plenty of Catholic or Christian etc teens who will stand with their peers even if they would get an abortion and that my friends is the tea for today

I was lucky enough to secure an ARC of UNPREGNANT and adored this story It s a fast paced, funny, quirky story about a HS student and her ex best friend who end up road tripping across the country when one of them discovers she s pregnant The issues are heavy, but Jenni and Ted do a wonderful job incorporating humor in a way that makes the book compulsively readable The story has an incredible forward momentum you can definitely tell that the authors have a background in screenwriting and i I was lucky enough to secure an ARC of UNPREGNANT and adored this story It s a fast paced, funny, quirky story about a HS student and her ex best friend who end up road tripping across the country when one of them discovers she s pregnant The issues are heavy, but Jenni and Ted do a wonderful job incorporating humor in a way that makes the book compulsively readable The story has an incredible forward momentum you can definitely tell that the authors have a background in screenwriting and it never, ever lags I highly, highly recommend this book

Veronica s practically perfect and her life reflects that She s likely to be valedictorian and her boyfriend is sweet and attentive And then she gets pregnant This is NOT part of her five year plan which includes Brown and which doesn t at all include following in her sister s footsteps of dropping out of college, marrying and having a baby This means getting an abortion, which means driving for 1,000 miles each way, to the nearest clinic that will perform it without parental permission A Veronica s practically perfect and her life reflects that She s likely to be valedictorian and her boyfriend is sweet and attentive And then she gets pregnant This is NOT part of her five year plan which includes Brown and which doesn t at all include following in her sister s footsteps of dropping out of college, marrying and having a baby This means getting an abortion, which means driving for 1,000 miles each way, to the nearest clinic that will perform it without parental permission And her companion on this trip Her former best friend, Bailey. If you re in the mood for a laugh out loud road trip book, this is for you Everything that can go wrong for Veronica and Bailey does, but it s hysterically funny because it s not happening to you, and until you think about how they have to travel almost 2,000 miles round trip to get an abortion which, incidentally, IS LEGAL IN THE US This is why I ll never live anywhere south of where I currently live, btw Besides being a madcap comedy, though, it s about friendship I hope we all have at least one person who will make hard journeys with us And I hope we all have at least one person who would do it even if we weren t currently friends Highly recommended
